Dew drops on May day are thought to signify renewal and inspiration at the dawn of a new time cycle. In the pause of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, Take What Is Dew imbues the language of campaigning with folkloric custom.

‘Take What Is Dew’ takes its lead from the sensual associations of morning dew, specifically on 1st May, the official date when spring turns to summer. It invites conjecture about what appears around us almost miraculously, everywhere. At a time of great social and economic strain, and when communities are recognising their potential to effect change locally and nationally, the exhibition invites visitors to activate the potential for renewal in their immediate environment.

Research into broken and unbroken calendar customs around the UK is made into a series of interrelated films To Each Their Dew, Interlude and Lynn and Linda. Each considers the passage of time through the personal but universal experiences of birth, friendship, ageing and home life. Shown together, these formal experiments in repetition (including re-enactment, looping and infinite loop animation) come to represent both commemoration and the possibility of a fresh start.
