Stella Scott: Interlude

Interlude

60 mins
In collaboration with Dorothy Feaver

A series of one-minute black-and-white films depicting various activities: tea brews, a kitten scratches itself, hands fiddle with tin foil, a chopstick smooths grains of rice, hair is plucked, shaved and plaited. The series refers to a long-gone sight in early British television: short films that eased the gaps in programming. By turns soothing or monotonous, the activities build a portrait of a domestic setting in which the maintenance of daily life is captured without break. In sensual detail, the audio brings out a frisson in otherwise low-key moments.
